A May 2024 study examined the combined off-the-field earnings of the 50 highest-paid athletes worldwide. In the past 11 years, the total off-the-field income has nearly doubled from roughly 556 million U.S. dollars in 2012 to more than one billion U.S. dollars in 2023. The figure experienced a drop of 13 percent in 2024, falling back under the one billion U.S. dollar mark to 936 million U.S. dollars.
