In 2020, Tmall had a 32 percent share of the Chinese e-commerce gross merchandise value. In the social commerce segment, Pingduoduo was the leading platform, accounting for 16 percent of GMV. Although traditional e-commerce still represents the majority of e-commerce business, social commerce was able to make up significant ground in the past years.

The survey was conducted among middle and large enterprises:
26 percent of the surveyed enterprises have annual revenues of one to 10 million yuan;
36 percent of the respondents have revenues of 10 million to 100 million yuan;
22 percent have revenues of 100 million to one billion yuan;
13 percent have revenues of one billion to five billion yuan;
and three percent of respondents have revenues of five to ten billion yuan.
