According to a survey conducted from September to October 2022 in Japan, around 62 percent of close to 2.5 thousand patients with mental and behavioral disorders related to drug abuse were diagnosed with dependence syndrome. At the same time, about 30 percent of patients were diagnosed with residual disorders and late-onset psychotic disorders.

*The survey was conducted among 221 psychiatric facilities across Japan. Attending doctors of 2,468 patients who received inpatient or outpatient treatments at respective facilities responded to the survey question.
Patients were diagnosed with mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use, excluding alcohol use, based on the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10-CM) designated by the World Health Organization (WHO.)
