In a December 2021 survey, 87 percent of adults in the United States reported that they were concerned about their privacy if Facebook were to succeed in creating the metaverse. Additionally, half of all respondents stated that they feared it would be too easy for hackers to impersonate others. Furthermore, 41 percent of respondents felt it would be too hard to protect their real identity in the metaverse.
