The index covers such things as early detection and diagnosis; access to care; and care standards and settings. Sweden and Germany followed with index scores of 63 and 61 respectively.

The Index incorporates both qualitative and quantitative data across five categories, subdivided into 23 component areas, and over 120 distinct metrics. The five categories were:
Strategy & commitment.
Early detection & diagnosis.
Access to care (medical).
Awareness & monitoring.
Care standards & settings.
These category scores were then equally weighted to produce the final index score.
