According to a survey that was conducted in Japan in August 2021, more than 26 percent of female respondents in the age group 60 to 69 years old stated that they think women should be the ones to do the housework and childcare. The younger the respondents were, the smaller the share of them who agreed with this attitude. Of the respondents between 20 and 29 years old, only around 17 percent agreed.

Respondents were given the choices to respond with: "I agree", "I somewhat agree", "I somewhat disagree", and "I disagree. The survey only lists the exact numbers for the answers "I agree" and "I somewhat agree".
Sample size of age groups:
20 to 29 years: n=984
30 to 39 years: n=1,010
40 to 49 years: n=1,038
50 to 59 years: n=1,062
60 to 69 years: n=1,071
