Annual number of visitors to nature parks in Israel 2017-2023
In 2023, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority recorded just over 6 million visits to recreation under its management. This reflected a decline from the previous year. Nature and recreating sites in the country are popular tourist destinations for foreign and local visitors alike. They include diverse offerings such as beaches, forests and natural springs, with convenient facilities. The Northern district in Israel recorded the highest number of visits to recreation sites, with about 2.5 million entries.
En Gedi and the Palmachim beach are highly popular
The desert oasis in En Gedi and the Palmachim beach nature reserves are the two most popular recreation sites in 2023, in terms of number of visitors. Ein Gedi is a unique nature reserve in a area located near the Dead Sea in the southern part of Israel.
Historical sightseeing important to visitors
The long history of the country and its significance to world religions is a significant driver of local tourism. The Israel Nature and Parks Authority also tasked with preserving and administering local archeological and historical sites. The two most popular historical sites for 2023 were the ruins of Caesarea and Masada. These two sites alone registered almost 1.5 million visits.
