The average share of GDP generated from oil rents in Saudi Arabia increased by 7.7 percentage points (+48.19 percent) in 2021 in comparison to the previous year. In total, the average share amounted to 23.69 percent in 2021. This increase was preceded by a declining average share. The estimates of natural resource rents are calculated as the difference between the price of a commodity and the average cost of producing it. For oil rents, this is estimated by subtracting the total costs of crude oil production from the value of production at regional prices.
