European Union carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from aviation were roughly 122 million metric tons (MtCO₂) in 2022, 90 percent of which were from international aviation. EU aviation CO₂ emissions more than doubled between 1990 and 2019, before plummeting more than 50 percent in 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Although emissions have rebounded since then, they have remained below pre-pandemic levels.
