Japan's Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) was the largest public pension fund worldwide as of 2024. The fund, which was established in 2006 had assets under management worth **** trillion U.S. dollars. United States' Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board ranked second with assets under management amounting to *** billion U.S. dollars. Since 2006, the size of the public pension industry has been growing and is expected to reach **** trillion U.S. dollars in assets under management until 2030.
