According to a survey conducted in South Korea in 2024, around 91.2 percent of households held subscriptions to private health insurances. While the government's public health insurance program National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) covers the basics, it is popular to pay for additional private health insurance to receive more comprehensive coverage. Among low-income households, only about 42.4 percent held such subscriptions, amounting to a national average of roughly 77.5 percent.
