In order to reach the basic materials industry's net-zero emissions goal by 2050, an increase of the clean hydrogen capacity is required. The steel industry alone would need a clean hydrogen capacity of 48 million metric tons of H₂ per year, while the aluminum industry would require some 10 million tons of clean H₂ per year to reach the net-zero target by 2050.
