As of 2020, South Caroline and Alabama were the U.S. states with the most housing units that had heat pumps installed. North Carolina was not far behind, with 38 percent of homes using central heat pumps. Heat pumping systems are especially common in Southern States, as most households there are all-electric and don't have gas connections.
