
U.S. borrowers who struggled to make student loan payments 2022
A survey in March 2022, found that 38 percent of respondents had significant difficulty affording their student loan payments during the pandemic. While the Department of Education implemented a moratorium on student loan payments at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, not all borrowers were eligible for paused payments, such as FFEL Program loans, Federal Perkins Loans, HEAL loans, and private student loans.
