In 2023, Spain had eight active mines for the extraction of metallic minerals, while the number of industrial mineral sites stood at 172. Quarry products accounted for the largest number of sites in the country, at almost 2,000. The number of active mines in Spain has declined by roughly 20 percent since 2012.
