The source adds the following: The Healthcare Affordability Index evaluates three key factors to determine how many Americans can afford care by classifying them into three categories:
"Cost Secure": These persons report no recent experience of being unable to afford care
"Cost Insecure": These persons report recent experience of being unable to pay for care or medicine or lack easy access.
"Cost Desperate": These persons report recent experiences of being unable to pay for household care, being unable to pay for prescribed medicine and feeling that they would not have access to affordable quality care if needed today.
