In 2024, China imported 14 million U.S. dollars worth of semiconductor equipment from Japan. Manufacturing equipment is a key component in the value chain, but only a handful of companies produce high-end equipment necessary for making the most capable chips. Unfortunately, they are not located in mainland China, which is why the Chinese semiconductor industry heavily relies on imported machinery.
