In 2024, space and water heating, along with cooling, made up most of the energy consumed by residential buildings in the United States. Overall, U.S. homes used over five quadrillion British thermal units to heat homes. The type of end-use with the highest level of energy consumption was other uses, a category which includes electric and electronic devices, motors, pool and spa heaters, outdoor grills, and other devices which did not fit in the rest of the categories included.
