Share of egg production in India FY 2024 by leading state

In financial year 2024, the state of Andhra Pradesh contributed the highest share of about 18 percent in the total egg production of the country. By contrast, the central Indian state of Odisha had a share of just over two percent during the same year. Moreover, the southern states were the leading egg producers of the country.

Egg production

The most consumed animal protein source is eggs in India. The improved fowl species of eggs are produced in the majority across the country followed by desi fowl species. In addition, the overall number of eggs produced was 138 billion in the financial year 2023. The production of eggs has almost doubled compared to the financial year 2010 due to an increase in demand.

Consumers are becoming more conscious and aware of animal welfare and the environment. For this reason, the popularity of egg substitutes is increasing among Indian vegetarians and vegans. The key players producing plant-based egg varieties in India are Evo foods, Vegan Dukan, and Vegan First. Besides, the plant-based sector has a promising future. Therefore, the domestic market size of the plant-based egg is likely to be over 14 billion Indian rupees by 2030.
