Modal split of passenger transport in Iceland 2005-2022
In 2022, transportation by passenger cars accounted for 88.6 percent of the total number of passenger trips made in Iceland. Passenger cars are the main mode of passenger transport in Iceland, consistently accounting for around nine out of ten trips made across the country over the past years. Buses are the only form of public transport available in Iceland, and make up the remaining roughly ten percent of motorized passenger land transport.
