According to a 2022 release of a three-year survey, Mexico's share of respondents who claimed not to have a access to banking account increased in 2017. The source states 2017 was the latest available year for Mexico in 2022, as no new figures were provided for that country. Nevertheless, Mexico seemed to have a relatively high share of "unbanked" population - or those who or those who did not access to the services of a bank or another, similar financial organization. This was especially true for poor respondents, with a share of 75 percent in 2017. The report adds that women in Mexico were more likely than men to be financially excluded from services like ATM machines, credit cards, or financial products like insurance or mortgages. By 2021, the market share of cash in Mexican physical stores had declined by 30 percentage points when compared to 2019, although cash was still the most popular payment method in POS.
