Change in travel by mode of transport in Germany 2020-2022 compared to 2019

Road and rail travel over ** kilometers in Germany returned to similar patterns in fall 2022, compared to pre-pandemic travel in 2019. While road travel returned to similar levels as in 2019 in the first half 2019, rail travel took longer to recover until the summer of 2022, when they experienced a spike while the 9-Euro-Ticket was available. Meanwhile, domestic air travel has been increasing again, following the drop by around ** percent at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, but was still around a third below pre-pandemic levels in October 2022.
