Mexico saw a total area of over 1.67 million hectares affected by wildfires in 2024. Just like the number of wildfires increased in 2024 when compared to the previous year, the overall affected extent increased by some 60 percent, up from approximately 1.05 million hectares in 2023. Furthermore, this also represented Mexico's largest surface area struck by forest fires since at least 2015.
