Hydroelectric power plants were the main source of electricity in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in 2023. This energy source accounted for over 770 terawatt-hours of electricity generated that year, or 43 percent of the electricity generation mix of the region. Natural gas followed with a share of 24 percent.
