Throughout the period shown in Panama, the percentage of the population living under extreme poverty conditions in rural areas experienced a significant overall decrease, reaching its lowest point in 2021 with 40.5 percent. In 2022 and 2023, however, the rate showed signs of increase, ending 2023 at 44.7 percent.
