Sectoral GHG emissions projections under current policy in the U.S. 2035, by sector

Net greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. power sector are estimated to decline by between 42 and 83 percent from 2023 levels by 2035, under current policies. Meanwhile, the transportation sector - the largest source of emissions in 2023 - would see reductions of between 22 to 34 percent. Buildings and the agriculture and waste sectors would see less dramatic reductions over this period, with emissions from the latter remaining mostly flat. It is projected that industry will become the most polluting sector in the U.S. by 2035, with emissions ranging between 1.3 and 1.5 MtCO₂e.
