*Boncap contributions are based on the main member's income bracket. The lowest price option is for those with an income of R0 to R10,020 per month. This plan includes in-hospital and out-of-hospital benefits, additional benefits, wellness benefits, maternity benefits, childcare benefits, and preventative care benefits.

The price range data applies to main members only. Contributions for additional adult members are either the same as the main member or slightly lower, and contributions for children are significantly less. Open medical schemes are open to all South Africans who are able to pay for membership.
South African medical schemes are non-profit trusts that their members own. The contributions made by the members are put together and used to pay pertinent medical costs where necessary while keeping a legislated surplus (at least a 25 percent solvency ratio) to prevent the scheme from collapsing. Some medical plans have an option for saving, which creates a collective savings from a member’s monthly payments for personal use.
