According to a survey conducted in March 2024, fandom in Japan was mostly directed at *************. Around ** percent of respondents who engaged in fandom activities, "oshikatsu," supported real-life individuals, ranging from idols, actors, and actresses to historical figures. At the same time, over ** percent engaged in fandom activities related to things and objects such as railways.

Oshikatsu, a combination of the words "oshi (a favorite member of a band, sports team, etc.)" and "katsu (activity)," describes activities aimed at supporting a favorite personality, character, or object.
