In a survey conducted in Japan in January 2023, close to one-quarter of respondents aged 20 to 29 reported engaging in fandom activities (oshikatsu). The share was smaller among older generations, with less than five percent of people in their sixties stating they engaged in fandom. According to the same survey, women were more likely to support a favorite personality, character, or object through oshikatsu activities.
