The number of new passenger cars in the European Union that emit 95 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer (g CO₂/km) or less increased to 2.45 million units in 2023. This accounted for almost a quarter of all new passenger cars sold in the EU that year. Although the number of new passenger cars sold in the EU that emit between 96 and 130 g CO₂/km increased slightly in 2023, the number of vehicles sold in this class has fallen considerably since 2019.
