Biggest A2A payments brands in Latin America in 2023, based on number of transactions
The number of monthly transactions performed with Brazil's Pix were significantly higher than other A2A payment methods elsewhere in Latin America. The Brazilian wallet – developed and moderated by the country's central bank, utilizing a real-time payments rail – was released in late 2020, and saw its number of transactions increase by 300 percent between launch and 2023. It is believed that A2A payments, or account-to-account payments – electronic payments made directly from one party (account) to another while bypassing traditional card rails – are to increase in Latin America. Countries like Peru or Argentina implemented new regulations in 2022 to help expand the new payments type.
