In the period between 2016 and 2020, the Greek region of Attica, which contains the capital city Athens, published the greatest number of scientific research articles, which resulted in by far the greatest number of citations of any region. Authors in Central Macedonia and Crete also managed a signficant amount of publications, resulting in 163,000 and 103,000 citations respectively.
