In 2022, the Indian state of Maharashtra had the highest number of farmers covered under the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme during the kharif season, reaching over 88 thousand. It was followed by the states of Uttarakhand and Kerala.
WBCIS aims to provide insurance protection to farmers against adverse weather conditions like deficit and excess rainfall, high or low temperature, humidity, etc., which can negatively impact crop production.
