Main causes for boys' infant death 2023, by cause
In 2023, congenital deformities and chromosomal abnormalities were the most common specific cause of infant death among boys in Japan, accounting for more than 33 percent of all cases. Around 14 percent of infant boys in Japan died due to respiratory and cardiovascular disorders during the perinatal period.
Overall, 696 infant deaths in boys were recorded in that year.
