The JSW Steel Vijayanagar steel plant was the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in India's manufacturing sector in 2023, with estimated emissions of almost 20 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Combined, the 10 highest-emitting manufacturing assets in India were estimated to have produced more than 100 MtCO₂e in 2023.
