The RPL Jamnagar crude oil refinery in Gujarat produced an estimated 20.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2023. This made it the most polluting asset in India's fossil fuel operations sector. The Gevra coal mine followed, with emissions of six MtCO₂e. Gevra coal mine is owned by Coal India Limited, which is one of the most polluting fossil fuel companies in the world based on cumulative emissions since 1965.
