Dengue in Latin America
Latin America is the region reporting the highest number of dengue cases in the world. Within the region, it is Brazil that accounts for the highest share of infections in 2025, followed by Argentina and Paraguay. Guyana, Brazil and Paraguay show the highest incidence rates, with Guyana being the most affected nation. In contrast, Chile, Uruguay, and a selection of Caribbean countries show relatively low values.
Brazil’s latest outbreak
An outbreak of dengue cases has been taking place in Latin America since 2023. The marked increase in cases has been attributed to various factors, including the phenomenon of El Niño and climate change. Brazil has been strongly affected by this outbreak, reporting the highest number of dengue cases recorded in the last years already in the first months of 2025.
