Numbers of free-floating car-sharing vehicles had been declining in Italy from 2019 to 2022. However, in 2023 the number increased to almost 6,690 with an almost 2,000 vehicle increase. Meanwhile, station-based car-sharing vehicles have not been subject to the same downward trend which was between 2019 and 2022.
In free-floating car-sharing schemes, vehicles do not need to be returned to the same location where they were picked up but can be dropped off anywhere within a usually pre-determined geographic area.
