In 2022, the total lifecycle emissions intensity of extra-heavy oil produced in the Peace River Oils Sands in Alberta, Canada was 867 kg/CO₂e/boe in 2022. This was the highest total emissions intensity among Canada's oil and gas resources that year. By comparison, wet gas produced at Montney BC had a total emissions intensity of 511 kg/CO₂e/boe that year. The Montney BC oil and gas field was estimated to be the second-largest GHG polluter in Canada in 2022.

Figures are for total lifecycle emissions that come from upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas operations and end uses. This includes production, refining and petrochemical processing, gathering, storage, and transportation, and end uses. Calculations assume a 20-year global warming potential of non-CO₂ emissions. The source does not provide a release date and has therefore been set as the date of site access.
