Hydrogen projects using electrolysis as a production pathway far outnumber any other low-carbon hydrogen projects either in operation or proposed. As of 2023, there were 578 green hydrogen (electrolysis) projects, compared with 16 projects relying on fossil fuels and CCUS (carbon capture, utilization, and storage).
