Geographical distribution of dental personnel
The majority of the dental care workforce in Mexico is concentrated in the State of Mexico, with over 36,000 people employed in dental offices in 2023. This is a stark contrast to the state of Baja California, where the number of dental professionals reached a total of 670 employees. While the State of Mexico is the most populated region in the country, Baja California still surpasses the four million inhabitants. In contrast, Baja California Sur, the least populated state in the country has around 760,000 people.
Cost of dental health services
Services offered in dental offices can be relatively expensive for the Mexican population, especially for the most vulnerable segments. As an example, professional dental cleaning in Mexico City had an average cost of 500 to 1,500 pesos in 2024, varying according to the type of service. That year, the most desired treatments for improving a person’s smile, namely teeth whitening and teeth straightening, had an average cost of 1,500 and 50,000 pesos, respectively.
