In 2022, renewable energy accounted for about 14 percent of the total global primary energy supply. By 2050, renewable energy is required to account for 78 percent of the primary energy supply worldwide in a scenario where the global temperature rise is limited to 1.5 °C. Conversely, fossil fuel energy accounted for an 82 percent share of primary energy worldwide in 2022, and is forecast to decrease to 16 percent by 2050.
