As of 2023, Asia accounted for approximately 62.3 percent of the total global production volume of minerals and metals from mines, which made it by far the world's leading mining region. In a distant second place at that time was North America, accounting for slightly more than 15 percent of global mine production. 

The total global production volume of mines in 2023 amounted to over nine billion metric tons.
