Between 2016 and 2023, content spending of Netflix generally increased from 4.7 billion U.S. dollars to over 14 billion U.S. dollars globally. North America has long been the streaming giant's largest market. However, a forecast shows that by 2024 spending on local content will likely surpass that of programming investments in North America in order to cater to the increasing number of subscribers in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
