Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative carbon dioxide allowances sold for 19.76 U.S. dollars per metric ton in the 67th RGGI Auction, held on March 12, 2025. In total, 23.5 million allowances were sold.
The RGGI is a cooperative, market-based program among the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont, that sets a cap to reduce power sector emissions. RGGI states distribute CO₂ allowances at quarterly auctions, where they can be purchased by power plants and other entities.
