According to a survey carried out between July and August 2024, more than one in five adults in the United States reported getting their news from news influencers. This activity increased noticeably among younger adults, as nearly 40 percent of respondents in the 18 to 29 years age group got news from news influencers on social media, compared to only seven percent of adults over 65 years old.

According to the source, news influencers are defined as "people who regularly post about current events and civic issues on social media." In addition, only people, and not institutions, were considered.
The survey is weighted by gender, race, ethnicity, political affiliation, level of education, and other factors to be representative of the adult population in the United States.
