According to a survey conducted in South Korea in April 2025, about 66 percent of respondents living in Gwangju or Jeolla Province considered Lee Jae-myung, former leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, to be the most suitable candidate for the next president of South Korea. Hong Joon-pyo, former Mayor of Daegu, received the highest support from respondents living in Daegu or Gyeongbuk Province, with about 19 percent.
