According to a survey conducted in Japan in December 2023, the share of men who had stated to have drunk alcohol within the past year stood at almost 81 percent, while for women it amounted to over 72 percent. The share of men who mentioned they had done binge drinking in the past month was much higher with close to 44 percent compared to only around 25 percent of women.
