The Game Awards, held every December, are an annual event that honors noteworthy achievements in the world of video games. Games released before a specific date in November are eligible for a nomination, and winners are chosen by a mixed vote from a jury and fans. In 2024, roguelike card game Balatro won the Independent Game of the Year award, as well as the Best Debut Indie Game of the Year prize.
The Game Awards are immensely popular online, and the 2024 iteration of the show reached a livestream viewership of 154 million.
