The source used Euromonitor to select the most visited cities worldwide.
To calculate the number of Instagram posts tagged with the cities, it used the search term "#[city]". Figures are as of May 25, 2024.
To find the number of TikTok posts tagged with the cities, it used the search term "#[city]". Figures are as of May 26, 2024.
To find the number of Google searches and the three-year percentage change in Google searches, it used the search term "holiday in [city]" on Google Keyword Planner. Figures are as of May 24, 2024.
Finally, it combined all figures into a weighted table and gave each factor a normalized score out of 10. All scores were then averaged to get the final social media index score.
